Bomb hits Egypt's reserve gas pipeline Attacks on pipelines over the past three years have repeatedly forced a halt to Egypt's gas exports to Israel and Jordan
A bomb hit Egypt's reserve gas pipeline near Port Said on Wednesday morning, state news agency MENA reported. The improvised explosive device caused no casualties. Explosives experts have begun investigations at the site. Initial reports show the bombers placed the device near the reserve gas pipeline and not the active one, avoiding a massive explosion in the area. Similar attacks have targeted a pipeline carrying gas to Jordan through the Sinai Peninsula. Since the beginning of this year, the Sinai gas pipeline has been bombed at least five times. Attacks on pipelines over the past three years haverepeatedly forced a halt to Egypt's gas exports to Israel and Jordan. Egypt stopped supplying gas to Israel in April 2013, citing business disputes. Egypt's army is waging a broad campaign on terrorism in the country. The country has witnessed terrorist attacks in the Sinai Peninsula since the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi along with bombings and drive-by shootings targeting police and army personnel in several governorates. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/95903.aspx
