Mubarak 'presidential palaces' trial to begin 19 February Ousted president Hosni Mubarak and his sons are accused of embezzling LE125 million allocated for the renovation of presidential palaces
The 'presidential palaces' trial of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak and his two sons will begin on 19 February, a court announced on Thursday. Mubarak and sons Gamal and Alaa are accused of embezzling LE125 million ($17.9 million) allocated for the renovation of presidential palaces. The defendants also face trials for the killing of protesters during the January 2011 uprising. Gamal and Alaa face a separate corruption case. Hosni Mubarak was released from custody in August after exceeding the 2-year legally mandated detention time pending trial, but Gamal and Alaa remain in jail. Mubarak settled another case against him by reimbursing gifts he had received from state-run institutions. Cairo Criminal Court is scheduled to hold a session in Hosni Mubarak's murder case on Saturday. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/93613.aspx
