Colleagues of journalist Ahmed Assem El-Senousy, who was killed during violence at the Cairo headquarters of the Republican Guards earlier on Monday morning, gave a press conference on Monday afternoon.
At the press conference, held by some of the protesters participating in a sit-in close to the Republican Guards headquarters in support of deposed president Mohamed Morsi, photos and videos reportedly taken by El-Senousy were shared.
The speakers stressed that they represented only themselves.
El-Senousy worked for the Freedom and Justice Party's official newspaper.
At least 42 people were killed and 300 injured in violent clashes on Monday morning between supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi and the army.
Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood claimed that a peaceful pro-Morsi sit-in was attacked by the military during dawn prayers, while the military stated that an “armed terrorist group” had attacked the Republic Guard headquarters, leading to the deaths.
The videos showed someone moving covertly on top of a building in front of the Republican Guards building, and then various videos of corpses and injured people.
The speakers described the army "as a beast that turned against Egyptians, worse than the Israeli army, giving orders to open fire on Egyptians while praying.”
The doctor responsible for the field hospital at the pro-Morsi sit-in in Rabaa Al-Adawiya Square described over 400 injuries, with over 150 cases of live ammunition, 200 cases of birdshot and over 100 suffocations from teargas. He also said that four operations were done to save the lives of victims, before medics ran out of supplies.
