Egypt claim two wins in Squash World Cup Egypt secure two victories in the opening day of the 2011 squash Mixed World Cup, beating Malaysia 2-1 and South Africa 3-0 on Tuesday
The World number one team overcame Malaysia with a 2-1 win early in the day at the Marriott Hotel in Chennai, India. Karim Darwish thrashed Muhd Asyraf Azan 3-0 with results 11-1, 11-5, 11-1 in only 22 minutes before the Malaysians fought back defeating Raneem El-Weleily with Nicol David 9-11, 6-11, 6-11 in 28 minutes. Mohamed El-Shorbagy ended the Pharaohs' opener winning 3-0 over Kamran Khan (11-4, 11-6, 11-7) in 38 minutes. Egypt also managed to defeat South Africa later in the day with a comfortable 3-0 win. The world number two player, Ramy Ashour, beat South Africa's Stephen Coppinger3-0 (12-10, 12-10, 11-6) in 29 minutes before El-Weleily eased past Siyoli Waters with the same score (11-8, 11-3, 11-3) in 18 minutes. El Shorbagy wrapped up Egypt's win after beating Rodney Durbach 3-1 (11-7, 7-11, 11-0, 11-7) in 43 minutes. In the 2011 Squash World Cup, nine nations, led by top seeds Egypt, England, world-number-one Malaysia and hosts India, are competing in a unique two-man-one-woman World Squash Federation mixed team event, now in its third year.
