Egyptian film 'Winter of Discontent' to premier at Venice Film Festival Ibrahim El Batout's independent film set against the backdrop of Egyptian revolution will premier at the Venice Film Festival (29 August-8 September)
Winter of Discontent by Ibrahim El Batout will premiere in the Orizzonti (The new trends in world cinema) section at the 69th edition of the Venice Film Festival. The film revolves around the the lives of a State Security officer, a political activist and a journalist, and takes place amid the backdrop of the 18 days of mass protests that ousted the former president Hosny Mubarak in January-February 2011. Other Arab films participating in this year's edition include the Tunisian documentary film It Was Better Tomorrow by Aida Kaabi. Also participating will be Wadjda, the first-ever Saudi film shot in Saudi Arabia. The film, which is directed by Haiffa El Mansour, revolves around a young girl dreaming to ride her bike, which is banned for women in Saudi Arabia. The independent film Heritage by the Palestinian actress and filmmaker Hiam Abbas will also be screened in the Venice Days section for independent film. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/49169.aspx
