ONTV's Yosri Fouda suspends Egypt show over alleged censorship Popular talk show host tweets he has temporarily cancelled his programme after Wasat Party MP Essam Sultan is prevented from appearing on air
Celebrated TV presenter Yosri Fouda announced Thursday morning via Twitter that he will be taking his popular programme “Akher Kalam” (The Last Word) off air until further notice but failed to give the reason why. "I suspended my programme because I respect you,” Fouda, who works for ONTV private satellite channel, wrote to his fans on the social media platform, “the details only concern me, the audience should only be concerned with my work." Wasat Party MP Essam Sultan saluted Fouda for his decision, saying, on his Facebook page Tuesday, that the acclaimed talk show host had stopped his programme because Sultan had been prevented from appearing on air. Sultan called on other Egyptian television presenters to have the same level of integrity but failed to explain why ONTV had not permitted him to be a guest. This is the second time that Fouda has suspended his popular show. Last October, Fouda pulled the programme, reportedly, after ONTV refused to allow him to interview staunch military council critic, novelist and activist Alaa El-Aswany. El-Aswany made a statement at the time saying that Fouda had taken the action because of what he described as “a clampdown on the media." The show was suspended for weeks and was not broadcast again until El-Aswany was invited on the programme as planned. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/45748.aspx
