Egypt's fencing team recorded the country's best ever result at the Olympics' Sabre event after beating Iran 45-24 on to finish fifth on Wednesday. The team kicked off its campaign by defeating Japan 45-32 in the round of 16 before losing 45-37 to the top-ranked South Korea in the quarters. Egypt's team was represented by Ziad El Sissy, Mohamad Amer, Mohab Samer and Medhat Moataz. Earlier on Wednesday, the Egyptians made up for their loss to South Korea by beating the Russian Olympic Committee team 45-41 in the classification match (5-8) to set up a meeting against Iran in the fifth place game. Egypt's previous best at the Sabre event was an eighth-place finish in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
