Despite their superb start in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games on Monday, Egyptian fencers Alaa abouelkassem and Mohamed Hamza were eliminated on Monday from the quarterfinals of foil events. The Egyptian Olympic medalist, Abouelkassem, who won a silver medal in the men's foil event at the 2012 London Games, lost 15-13 to Takahiro Shikine of Japan in the foil event quarterfinals early today, thus failing to book a place in the semifinals. The 30-year-old Abouelkassem started his mission in Tokyo by beating Benjamin Kleibrink of Germany 15-11 in the foil event Round of 32 earlier on Monday. Meanwhile, Mohamed Hamza lost 9-15 to Andrea Cassara of Italy in the quarterfinals of foil event thus also failing to book a place in the semifinals. The 20-year-old Hamza opened the day with a 15-13 victory over Marcus Mepstead of Great Britain in the foil event Round of 32.
