To celebrate the 7th International Day of Yoga, the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC), and the Embassy of India in Cairo are organising a special event at the Children's Civilisation and Creativity Centre (The Child's Museum) in Heliopolis, on 21 June 2021 from 4:30pm to 7pm. The event is exclusive and is being organised in association with the Egyptian General Sports Federation and Egyptian Kabaddi Federation. This will be the first function to be attended by the newly named Indian Ambassador to Egypt Ajit Gupte. Ambassador Ajit Gupte has assumed the charge of Ambassador of India to the Arab Republic of Egypt on 10 March 202, succeeding ambassador Rahul Kulshreshth, who concluded his post on 28 February 2021. Gupte was previously India's Ambassador to Denmark from September 2017 to March 2021. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) approved a proposal by consensus, with a record of 177 co-sponsoring countries including Egypt, to celebrate 21 June as the International Day of Yoga. The UN General Assembly stated on 11 December 2014 that yoga provides an integrated style for health and happiness and stressed on the importance of increasing the awareness of the benefits of practicing yoga around the world.
