Egypt's monthly inflation climbs 0.15 pct in January: Data
Overall inflation is on the rise despite a slight fall in urban consumer prices, state statistics show
Published in Ahram Online on 09 - 02 - 2012

Egypt's annual headline inflation rose a monthly 0.15 per cent in January 2012, fuelling a year-on-year climb of 10.5 per cent, official data shows.
December's rise follows climbs of 9.1 per cent in November and 7.5 per cent in October.
Figures from state statistics body CAPMAS on Thursday, show inflation is being fuelled by broad climbs in consumer prices. These include hikes in meat (up 1.5 per cent), seafood (up 1.4 per cent), dairy products (up 2 per cent) and cooking oils (up 1 per cent).
Overall inflation edged up despite falls in the price of vegetables and fruit of 0.1 and 1 per cent respectively, figures show.
Headline inflation calculates an average between urban and rural varieties.
Egypt's urban consumer inflation slowed to 8.6 per cent in the 12 months to January from 9.5 per cent in December, according to Reuters on Thrusday.
The urban consumer price index for January was 120.3 versus 110.8 a year earlier, CAPMAS said.
Unusually, rural consumer price inflation was higher than urban inflation and slightly rose by 0.1 per cent from December reaching 11.4 per cent in January.
Meanwhile, core consumer price inflation slowed to 6.86 percent in the year to January from 7.07 in December, the central bank said on Thursday.
Core inflation strips out subsidised goods and volatile items including fruit and vegetables.
