Senegal wins final warmup match before African Cup Senegal completed its preparations for the African Cup of Nations by beating Kenya 1-0 on Sunday from Papiss Demba Cisse's second-half goal
The Freiburg striker scored with a right-footed shot in the 62nd minute after receiving a pass from Souleymane Camara. Senegal made a sluggish start with Kenya the more impressive team in the first half. It was the second narrow win and disappointing performance from the team, which has been touted as a strong challenger to favorites Ivory Coast and Ghana when the African Cup begins Saturday. Senegal edged out Sudan 1-0 last week with a goal from Newcastle forward Demba Ba. The match with Kenya was delayed by about 40 minutes after a dispute between Kenyan players and officials over allowances for the squad. Senegal's players will attend a farewell ceremony with the country's president on Tuesday before flying to Bata, Equatorial Guinea, on Wednesday. Senegal plays Zambia on the opening day of the African Cup. (For more sports news and updates, follow Ahram Online sports on Twitter: @AO_Sports)
