AFC chief supports a winter World Cup in 2022 The head of the Asian Football Confederation says Qatar can “perfectly organize” the 2022 World Cup in July despite the heat but that he supports moving the tournament to the cooler winter months
Mohamed bin Hammam, a Qatari member of FIFA's executive committee member, has given his endorsement to hosting the 2022 World Cup during the winter. Speaking on the sidelines of the Globe Soccer conference in Dubai, he said that moving the tournament to winter would be a “win-win” for world football since players would be in better shape. A January tournament would also coincide with the winter break in most leagues, he added. Bin Hammam joins FIFA President Sepp Blatter in supporting a winter tournament over concerns about Doha's summer climate.
