The heavy-weight April 6 Movement suggests who should be on a council dubbed the 'national salvation government' to move Egypt out of the Tahrir deadlock against the ruling military One of Egypt's most important activist movements, April 6 Movement, announced they will continue their sit-ins in Cairo's Tahrir Square and in other governorates, demanding the ruling military junta transfer power to a civilian presidential council. The suggested council would be composed of Mohamed ElBaradei, Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh and Hazem Abou Ismail (all presidential candidates) as well as judge Zakaria Abdul Aziz. The group also conceded a place for the military, stating that the armed forces could appoint a military man to sit on the council. The proposed council would be fully responsible for the people, the nation and forming a national interim government that would oversee elections. The literal Arabic translation for this proposed interim government gives much insight: "salvation government." The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), who has been the de facto rulers of Egypt since Mubarak was ousted from his 30-year rule on 11 February, would desist from political decision-making and reduce their role to the protectionist function an army is normally charged with.
