General Egyptian Book Organisation winter season: Revolution à go-go General Egyptian Book Organisation (GEBO) to launch 2011/2012 winter season dominated by revolutionary words and images
Under the title “January 25 Revolution: Stories, Writings and Images,” the General Egyptian Book Organisation (GEBO) will launch its 2011/2012 winter season, which will feature a series of cultural seminars and discussions from 15 November to 17 January. Scheduled seminars will be devoted largely to literary and photographic treatments of the January uprising that culminated in the ouster of Egypt's longstanding president Hosni Mubarak. The first seminar will examine “One Hundred Steps of Revolution: Diaries fromTahrir Square,” written byAhmed Zaghloul Al-Sheety and printed by the Merit publishing house. Prominent novelist and journalist Abdo Gobir is also expected to make an appearance at the event. The seminar will be conducted by author Mohamed Rafie on Tuesday, 15 November at 6pm at Salah Abdel-Sabour Hall on theNilecornice. GEBO's winter line-up will also include seminars by a number of other Egyptian writers who will discuss their various works on revolutionary themes. These include novelist Ibrahim Abdul-Mageed, who wrote “Days of Tahrir”; poet Abdul-Rahman Youssef, who wrote “Diaries of a Cactus Revolution”; Egyptian thinker Nader Fergani, who wrote “Diaries of a Rose Revolution”; Waheed Abdul-Mageed, who wrote “The January 25 Revolution: An Initial Reading”; and Amr Hashem Rabie, who wrote “The January 25 Revolution: An Initial Reading and Vision for the Future.” This winter season will also include Karima Khalil's “Messages from Tahrir,” published by the American University in Cairo; “The Egyptian Revolution: 25 January,” co-authored by Allan Woods and Fred Weston; and Samy Kamal El-Din's “Shadya and the January 25 Revolution,” which examines the revolutionary role of the songs of popular singer Shadya. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/26528.aspx
