Egypt's renowned swimmer Farida Osman narrowly missed out on a place in the semifinal of the 50m freestyle despite beating her personal best at the Rio Olympic Games on Friday. Osman finished second in her heat but 18th in the overall rank after touching the wall in 24.91 seconds, improving her Egyptian and African record. Her previous personal best was 24.92 seconds which she set at the Arena Pro Swim Series in the United States last January. The 21-year-old reached the semi-finals of the 100m butterfly at the Rio Games but could not go farther after finishing 12th in the overall ranking last Sunday. Osman, who made a remarkable fifth-place finish in the 100m butterfly at the World Championship last year, ended her contests in Rio de Janeiro.
