Worshippers in Daqahliya step in to prevent a sheikh, known for his closeness to Mubarak's former ruling party, from delivering the Eid sermon and leading prayers In a mosque in the Daqahliya governorate, local worshippers refused to allow a sheikh to give the Eid sermon for his relation to the ousted Mubarak regime and the former ruling National Democratic Party. Residents of the area rushed to stop the preacher from reaching the mosque's rostrum when they realised who he was while preparing for prayers. Several people intervened to lead the sheikh safely out of the mosque. The sheikh complained to security forces guarding the area surrounding the mosque, arguing that he is licensed by the Ministry of Endowment to conduct sermons. However, security forces chose not to interfere, saying that they are not responsible for security inside the mosque. The sheikh has accused Islamist groups of inciting such hostility towards him and denied he had any ties to either the former regime or any other political body. The local Ministry of Endowments office quickly intervened to bring in another sheikh to lead the prayers and give the sermon.
