Cairo taxi drivers organise new protest against Uber and Careem The Cairo taxi drivers demand the government ban Taxi service operators Uber and Careem in Egypt
Dozens of Cairo taxi drivers organised a protest at Mostafa Mahmoud Square in Mohandessin on Thursday evening against popular Taxi service operators Uber and Careem, repeating calls on the authorities to shut them down. The drivers chanted "Where are our rights?" and held banners urging the Ministry of Interior, which regulates licenses for taxis, to intervene against Uber and Careem. Traffic was blocked on Gamaat El-Dowal El-Arabia - a vital street in the upper middle class area - for several hours. In the past two weeks, Cairo taxi drivers escalated their movement against the taxi service operators Uber and Careem, arguing that the companies are putting tradition metre taxis out of business. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/187967.aspx
