Abbassiya martyr case to be sent to prosecutor The death of one protester from the Abbasiya battle, after reportedly being refused medical treatment, is to be investigated by the prosecutor-general
Egyptian Minister of Health and Housing Amr Helmy has decided to send the case of Mohamed Mohsen, who died as a result of injuries sustained during the protests in Abbassiya on 23 July, to the prosecutor-general for investigation, after several hospitals refused to give him treatment, contributing to his death. Mohsen was injured during clashes when protesters demonstrating against the ruling military council were attacked by pro-military council elements in the Abbassiya district of Cairo on 23 July. The 23-year-old suffered a brain haemorrhage after being struck in the head with a brick during the clashes. He was reportedly refused entry to several hospitals though his injuries were critical. He died after 12 days in a coma at the Nasser Medical Centre in Cairo. Helmy said that the case will be investigated, that the results will be announced, and that those who did not do their medical duty towards Mohsen will be punished.
