Porto have named Jose Peseiro as their new coach after he abruptly left Egyptian giants Ahly, the Portuguese club said on Tuesday. "Peseiro, who was coach of Ahly of Egypt, signed a one-and-a-half year deal with Porto," the club said in a statement on their official website. "He will be presented to the media on Thursday," Porto added in the brief statement. Peseiro, who was heavily criticised by Ahly's demanding supporters after the team lost twice and drew in as many games in eight matches under his guidance, succeeds Julen Lopetegui after the Spaniard was dismissed on Friday. The 55-year-old Peseiro told Ahly chairman Mahmoud Taher in the late hours of Monday that he would step down less than three months after taking over Egypt and Africa's most successful club, citing the constant attack on him by the media and fans. His job was under scrutiny anyway but Ahly decided to keep faith with him until he was approached by Porto. "With plenty of experience, Peseiro has worked in seven countries and 12 clubs, including Sporting, Sporting Braga (Portugal), Panathinaikos (Greece), Rapid Bucharest (Romania) and Real Madrid (as an assistant), as well as Saudi Arabia's national team," Porto said.
