Arsenal agree to Egypt's Elneny fee for 'tens of millions': Swiss reports Egypt midfielder Mohamed Elneny is on the verge of completing a move to English Premier League contenders Arsenal
Arsenal have already agreed with Swiss champions Basel to sign Egypt midfielder Mohamed Elneny for a fee thought to be 'in the tens of millions', according to Swiss outlet Aargauer Zeitung. The North Londoners have been reportedly keeping tabs on Elneny last season, as he turned on their radar ahead of the January transfer window. Arsenal's renewed interest in the 23-year-old's services comes in a bid to overcome a severe midfield injury crisis, with Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Michael Arteta all sidelined with respective injuries. Southampton's Victor Wanyama and Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho have all been reportedly monitored by Arsenal, but Elneny was believed to be a less expensive alternative. The former Arab Contractors midfielder has been a key figure for Basel since joining the Swiss club in January 2013, helping them to three league titles. In 2014, Ahly right-back Ahmed Fathi was briefly linked with Arsenal, a move which never materialized for the Egypt international.
