The film originally titled "Nuovo Cinema Paradiso" charts the life story of Salvatore, from a small Italian village. As a young boy, Salvatore got became attracted by films screened in the local cinema, Cinema Paradiso. The boy develops a profound friendship with Alfredo, the movie projectionist, who reveals to him the mysteries of movie making. Born in 1956, Giuseppe Tornatore is an Italian film director and screenwriter, with experience also in theatre and photography. Cinema Paradiso is one of his best-known works, establishing him on international map of arthouse cinema. Cinema Paradiso received Grand Prix du Jury at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival, the Golden Globe for best foreign language film in 1989, and five BAFTA Awards in 1991 for best film, actor, supporting actor, screenplay and music (composed by Ennio Morricone and Andrea Morricone). Cinema Paradiso will be screened on Wednesday, 27 July, at 7.30pm at Darb 1718 - Egyptian Contemporary Art and Culture Centre,Fustat district, near Coptic Cairo at the Mar Girgis metro station
