Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour claims he might coach the club The outspoken lawyer has taken steps to force coach Ferreira out despite the Portuguese delivering a domestic double
Zamalek chairman Moratda Mansour has hinted that he could take charge of the football team next season as he maintains his desire to release Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira. "I won't meet with Ferreira or even talk to him. He will leave his post even if I have to pay the buy-out clause in his contract from my personal money," Mansour told Nile Sport TV on Saturday. On Friday Mansour called on former stars Mohamed Salah and Tarek Mostafa to coach the team ahead of the new season, a step towards freezing out current coach Ferreira. After losing the Egypt Super Cup title to foes Ahly on Thursday, the Zamalek president labelled the Portuguese coach “a loser”, and promised to force him out. It was reported on Friday that a meeting will be held to reconcile the chairman and the coach, but it seems that the former will need some persuading. "I informed Ismail Youssef [director of football] that the technical staff would be fired if we lost to Ahly with the line-up announced by Ferreira," the outspoken lawyer explained. "Mohamed Salah didn't apologise for taking charge of the team and if he did that I will be the new coach," he added. Zamalek gave Ferreira, who guided the team to a domestic league and cup double this season, a one-year contract extension in August worth $50,000 a month, with a buy-out clause of three months' salary. After the Whites missed out on two pieces of silverware by crashing out of the CAF Confederation Cup in the semi-final and losing the Egypt Super Cup match, the Zamalek chairman opened fire on the tactician, accusing him of being responsible for the losses.
