Proverb of the day: Don't criticise or praise until a year and six months have passed لا تذمّ و لا تشكر غير بعد سنة و ست اشهر Don't criticise or praise until a year and six months have passed
لا تذمّ و لا تشكر غير بعد سنة و ست اشهر La tezemm wala toshkor ella baad sana we sett oshhor Translation: Don't criticise or praise until a year and six months have passed. Meaning: The choice of a year and sixth months as probation period during which one must reserve one's judgement is for poetic reasons, the cadence and rhyme in the saying, which is of two partrs (one ending in “toshkor” and the other ending in “oshhor”). It is an outdated saying but the words it uses are all clear and current, so modern listeners will have no trouble understanding it. If a friend takes up residence in a new country or takes a new job and then starts complaining, try this saying to them.
