Egypt's Elmohamady eager to open goal account with Sunderland Ahmed Elmohamady sets himself a target of opening his goal account next season with English Premier League side Sunderland
Sunderland winger Ahmed Elmohamady said he is looking forward to ending his goal drought with the Black Cats next season. The Egyptian international penned a permanent three-year deal with Sunderland last week after enjoying a fine debut season in the elite Premier League, having initially joined the club on a year-long loan from ENPPI. “I have scored goals in Egypt for ENPPI and I have scored at international level, so I know I can score goals,” the Pharaohs right-sided midfielder was quoted as saying by Sunderland Echo. “It's a disappointment that I have not scored any yet for Sunderland.” Elmohamadycreated two goals but could not find the net as Sunderland finished tenth last season. The 23-year-old, who made 38 appearances in all competitions, is eyeing a more effective role at the Stadium of Light to repay coach Steve Bruce for having faith in his abilities. “It is something I am working on and I came close on a couple of occasions towards the end of the season,” the talented winger explained. “The manager wants me to add it to my game, and in the last few months he was telling me to try and get in the box more. “Hopefully, it is something that I will improve on next season because it is important for midfielders to score and not to leave it all up to the strikers,” concluded Elmohamady.
