زى ام العروسة فاضية و مشبوكة Zay om el arousa, fadya we mashbouka Translation: Like the mother of a bride, not doing much but preoccupied. Meaning: This witty proverb, still in use, refers to the state of agitation that comes upon one while awaiting a big event, such as travel or purchase of a house, or promotion. The act of waiting is so fraught with excitement, that it takes its toll on the person involved. Like themother of a bride, that person will be unable to focus, but also unable to rest.
