Zamalek league success good for African Cup bid, says coach Ferreira Ferreira won his first Egyptian league game and is leaving doors open for all players in the starting eleven, ahead of tight schedule
Zamalek coach Jesualdo Ferreira is happy his team remained at the top of the Egyptian Premier League after winning against Dakhlya 2-0 Monday when the competition resumed after 50 days of suspension. "I am happy we gained the three points and kept the league lead," Ferreira, 68, was quoted as saying on the club's official website. Zamalek, who are bidding for their first league title since 2004, collected 48 points from 21 games, five ahead of second-placed ENPPI and a 12 point buffer between title holders Ahly who have two more games to play. "This is good before the Rwanda trip for the Rayon Sports game [in the second leg of the African Confederation Cup 5 April]," he added. Ferreira led the Cairo giants, for the first time, into an easy 3-1 home win over Rayon Sports in the Cup opener in the first leg of the competition's round of 32, two weeks ago. "Opportunities will be given to all ready players on the bench as we have a heavy and tight schedule ahead," announced the former Porto, Sporting, Malaga and Benfica coach who joined Zamalek in February. Following the death of 20 Zamalek supporters from tear gas as they attempted to enter Air Defence Stadium, domestic competitions have been suspended, though the league returned behind closed doors on Monday.
