Five improvised bombs exploded early Tuesday in Cairo's Matariya district, hours after the city was hit by two small bombs overnight. No casualties were reported following the blasts in the working-class district in northern Cairo. However, ten private cars and seven shop facades were damaged on Matariya's main street. Matariya has been the scene of weekly confrontations between supporters of ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi and police for months. Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported that initial police investigations have concluded that unknown assailants planted the bombs beneath private cars in the area. The bombs reportedly contained a total of five kilograms of explosive material. Two small bombs detonated Monday night in Cairo's Heliopolis and Maadi districts, while a third was defused in the Fifth Settlement. No casualties were reported. However, a blast outside the High Court complex in downtown Cairo left two civilians killed and at least nine people injured, including police officers, on Monday afternoon. Egypt has recently seen a spike in bombings in civilian areas after months of Islamist militants focusing on targetting police and army personnel and facilities. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/124344.aspx
