Call for participants to join public art workshop Baad El Bahr cultural association calls for participants to join workshop and exhibition exploring public art produced from re-used materials. Deadline 5 March
Led by Dutch public space designer Marjet Wessels Boer, and Italian material-processing artist Eugenia Morpurgo, the workshop- under the name From Rags to Riches- will bring 20 participants together to use alternative and up-cycled materials to create site-specific art for display in a public, open-air exhibition. Applications are open to Egyptian visual artists, designers, architects, students and amateurs of any age. Further, artists may apply for joining the exhibition without attending the workshop. Participants in the workshop can expect to learn and refine their skills handling a wide range of disposable materials including fabrics, paper, metals, plastic, glass and ceramics. From Rags to Riches is in line with Baad El Bahr's mission statement which aims to use contemporary art as a tool to bridge cultures and as an accessible daily life experience in all corners of society, steering away from art as a luxury product for a limited, elite circle. The workshop and exhibit is supported by Mashrabia Gallery, The Dutch Embassy, The Italian cultural institute, Medrar TV, as well as AMA ARAB and the Swiss Agency for development and cooperation. Programme: The workshop runs from 17-20 March, from 10.0 am to 6.00 pm daily, and is held in English with Arabic translation provided. Deadline to apply: 5 March, selected participants will be notified by 10 March. Applicants should send a motivation letter, CV and documentation of previous artwork (if available) to: [email protected] http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/124199.aspx
