Smouha beat Ahli Tripoli to reach Champions League round of 32 for the first time Smouha make it to the Champions League round of 32 after edging out Libya's Ahli Tripoli on penalties
Smouha secured a 5-3 penalty shootout win over Libya's Ahli Tripoli to qualify for the Champions League round of 32 for the first time of their participation in the competition. Following a 1-0 first-leg defeat away from home, the Alexandrians managed to negate their goal deficit in the return leg, thanks to a 53rd-minute penalty from striker Salah Amin. The 1-1 aggregate draw meant that both teams had to settle the tie through penalties, and indeed it was Smouha who made no mistakes from the spot throughout – with El-Sayed Farid, Ahmed Nabil 'Manga', Ahmed Saied 'Okka' , Amr El-Mnoufy and Amin all scoring. Smouha, who qualified for the Champions League after snatching the league's second spot from Zamalek last season, will meet the winner from the match between Nigeria's Enyimba and Beninese side Buffles du Borgou. Smouha and Ahly are Egypt's representatives in the Champions League, as Zamalek will be vying in the Confederation Cup this season.
