Art Alert: Palestinian artist Rima Almozayyen will address women's issues Rima AlMozayyen will display her latest paintings in an exhibition titled I'm Not a Doll, which will open 7 February at Art Lounge gallery.
A Palestinian artist based in Italy, Almozayyen will display paintings in her exhibit I'm Not a Doll. In her work, the artist tackles topics of restraint women may face in certain Arab societies.It is both a refusal of the offenses against women's freedom of expression, and a celebration of their vital role in these societies. The exhibition opens on 7 February and closes on 27 February. A talk by the artist discussing art and culture's role in connecting societies will take place on 10 February, which will be followed by the screening ofa short video project titled Freedom on Paper. The video is the work of the artist and directorAhed Ababneh. Almozayyen has held several prominent positions, including the Head of Culture and Arts in the Media and Cultural Centre of the Palestinian Embassy in Cairo in 2009, and the Head of Talent Development for Gaza's Ministry of Culture in 2000. She has participated in numerous international exhibits, and has won several awards, most recently the first prize at the Rome International Art Biennale of 2014.
