Martyrs' families try to enter New Cairo Court Police and military fought off the families trying to enter the trial of policemen accused of murdering peaceful protesters during the January 25 Revolution
Families of the January 25 Revolution victims wreaked havoc in front of the New Cairo Courthouse after trying to penetrate the courtroom where a trial of 14 policemen accused of killing peaceful protesters was held. Some of the martyrs' families arrived early in the morning Saturday and stood in front of the courtroom, holding aloft pictures of their murdered relatives. Security presence was already higher than usual when the families and supporters tried to enter the building, only for military and police troops to prevent them in a chaotic scene. The trial was eventually adjourned until 22 June and 17 more policemen were included in the list of defendants. In a similar incident early this month, a group of approximately 250 people destroyed the courtroom of the South Cairo Courthouse after the judge adjourned the trial of 13 policemen indicted on the same charges.
