Maritimo president slams 'childish' want-out Ibrahim Maritimo president hits out at Mohamed Ibrahim who made no secret of his desire to terminate his contract with the club
Maritimo chairman Jose Carlos Pereira has lashed out at Mohamed Ibrahim, describing the Egyptian as a child after suddenly announcing his intention to annul his five-year deal with the Portuguese side. After less than three months in Madeira, Ibrahim made no secret of his desire to leave the club, whom he joined for €400,000 from Zamalek in the close season, despite being on a five-year contract. "Ibrahim is being a child with his behavior. He has been badly advised, maybe with people who have been involved in the problem of Shikabala," Pereira said on Friday. When asked about a potential move for the 22-year-old Ibrahim to Alexandria's Ittihad, the Maritimo chief set the record straight that whoever wishes to sign his attacking midfielder should first approach the Portuguese club. "Whoever wants the player must contact Maritimo and their representatives," Pereira stressed. "Ibrahim betrayed the club and its representatives; the club owns the player and he must fulfill his contract." After making his surprise announcement, Ibrahim was linked with Hossam Hassan's Ittihad as a possible destination after departing Maritimo. Ibrahim refused to disclose the reasons behind his unexpected decision, stating that he does not mind staying without a club till the January transfer window opens. The Egyptian international is the most expensive signing in the history of Maritimo, who currently lie 10th in the Portuguese league table, with the club's officials are not expected to show leniency in the case of their new recruit. Ibrahim has played seven league games for Maritimo, who has yet to pay Zamalek the playmaker's transfer fee, this season - but failed to find the net in all of his appearances. Ex-Zamalek teammate Shikabala has been also involved in a similar saga with Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon after going AWOL for nearly two months now.
