Goalkeeper Ekramy, winger Elmohamady out of Egypt's squad for Botswana games Sherif Ekramy and Ahmed Elmohamady are among four players excluded from Egypt's squad for the upcoming Nations Cup qualifying games against Botswana due to injury
Egypt goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy and right winger Ahmed Elmohamady have been excluded from the team's squad for the African Cup of Nations qualifying games against Botswana due to injury. The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said in a brief statement on its official website that Ahly's Ekramy, Hull City's Elmohamady, Zamalek full-back Hazem Emam and Smouha striker Hani El-Egeizi will not be available for the Botswana double-header. The EFA did not specify the injuries which hit the quartet ahead of Friday's clash away to Botswana. Ekramy has been Egypt's regular shot-stopper since veteran keeper Essam El-Hadary fell out with the national team last year while Elmohamady is coach Shawky Gharib's preferred choice down the right flank. The pacy Emam plays a back-up role while El-Egeizi, often criticized for being sluggish upfront, gets a rare taste of action. Egypt risk missing out on a Nations Cup place for a third successive time after opening their qualifying campaign with two losses to Senegal and Tunisia. They face Botswana, who also have no points, in Gaborone on Friday before hosting them five days later in Cairo.
