Mahienour El-Masry co-defendants' retrial delayed until 12 October The four defendants are appealing their two-year jail sentences and LE50,000 fines for violating the protest law
An appeal court in Alexandria on Sunday postponed until 12 October the retrial of four activists objecting to their two-year jail sentences and LE50,000 fines for violating the protest law, Ahram Arabic news website reported. Last February, the four activists were sentenced to jail and fined along with human rights lawyer Mahienour El-Masry and two others for staging an unauthorised protest outside court at the retrial of the policemen who killed Khaled Said. While the appeal court first lowered the sentence for El-Masry to six months in jail before suspending it altogether last week, the other defendants remain behind bars in the same case. The four defendants are Islam Hassanein, Nasser Abu El-Hamd, Louay El-Qahwagi and well-known poet Amr Hazeq. The remaining two defendants remain at large. Human rights lawyer Khaled Ali is among the defence lawyers. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/111924.aspx
