Algeria's Setif score late to claim narrow first-leg advantage in Champions League ES Setif defeat four-time winners TP Mazembe 2-1 in the first-leg of the African Champions League semi-final on Saturday
Algeria's ES Setif claimed a narrow first-leg advantage in the African Champions League semi-final after striking late to come from behind and beat four-time winners TP Mazembe 2-1 at home on Saturday. The hosts were stunned on 52 minutes when Said Arrousi inadvertently converted a left-wing cross into his own net. However, Sofiane Younes brought Setif level three minutes later when he caught the defence napping to head home a floated cross at the far post. A superb individual effort from Abdelmalek Ziaya, who swiveled to skip past his marker and finish off a flowing move with a powerful shot from inside the area that went past the keeper, sent the home fans to raptures with two minutes remaining. ES Setif are bidding to win their second Champions League title, having won the competition in its old format in 1988. Mazembe are seeking to claim a fifth title and their first since 2010. The return leg will take place next week in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
