The Palestinian ambassador to Egypt has announced that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will arrive in Cairo next Friday for a two-day visit, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported Monday. Gamal Al-Shobky said that Abbas will meet with his Egyptian countepart Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on Saturday to discuss the latest developments in Cairo's endeavours to finalise a Palestinian-Israeli ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Al-Shobky, the Palestinian Arab League permanent representative, noted that the bilateral meeting will also discuss the planned conference on the reconstruction of the war-torn coastal enclave, expected to be held in Cairo by September. Israel's offensive against Gaza, which began on 8 July, has led to the death of 2,016 Palestinians and the injury of 10,196 others.
