Sunday's Tunisian league game between Sfaxien and Club Bizertin was abandoned in the first half after fans invaded the pitch as security concerns arose again following a popular revolt in the country. Sfaxien scored three goals within the first 20 minutes to anger Bizertin's home supporters, who took over the pitch and forced the referee to leave. They were seen holding bladed weapons, which they used to assault security personnel and ruin the match. The Tunisian league was resumed on 17 April after a lengthy stoppage due to the popular uprising which forced former president Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali to flee to Saudi Arabia in January. The crowd trouble in Sfaxien V Bizertin game follows similar riots in an African Champions League clash in Cairo earlier this month between Zamalek and Tunisia's Club Africain. Hosts Zamalek were handed an $80,000 fine and ordered to play two African matches behind closed doors after thousands of their supporters invaded the pitch in stoppage time to force the match's cancellation.
