Ahly better despite short preparation, says coach Cairo side Ahly had just one week's preparation for their Confederation Cup tie against Sewe Sport of Ivory Coast
Ahly coach Carlos Garrido has expressed satisfaction over his side's Saturday home 1-0 win against Ivory Coast's Sewe Sport in the African Confederation Cup. "I am glad we won the three points," the Spaniard told the Cairo-based club's official website after the game, adding "Ahly was better especially in the midfield despite having only one week's preparation." The Egyptians are leaders of Group B with eight points, three ahead of Etoile Sahel after the Tunisian side were handed a 4-3 defeat by Zambia's Nkana in the other group match on Saturday. The team are off for four days and then they will be back after Eid Al-Fitr Islamic holiday to prepare for Zambia's Nkana game scheduled for 9 August. Garrido – who took charge of the team after Fathi Mabrouk following their Premier League triumph – is seeking to inspire Ahly to become the first Egyptian team to win the Confederation Cup. The record holders of eight trophies of the CAF Champions League and the winners of the last two successive editions of the most prestigious African tournament are competing in the Confederation Cup after failing to qualify for the league's group stage.
