Smouha ready for historic success in Ahly game Fully fit and highly motivated Smouha are bidding for their first Egyptian Premier League trophy, but they must first snatch it from record-holders Ahly
Smouha are finalising preparations Sunday night ahead of the anticipated decisive match on Monday against Ahly for the Egyptian Premier League winner in the last round of the mini-league phase. Under the leadership of former Egypt assistant coach Hamada Sedki, the coastal team is highly motivated thanks to the support of Alexandria Governor Tarek Mahdy, who visited the team's training camp along with club chairman Mohamed Farag Amer, who promised the players large bonuses should the club win its first league trophy. "We already made history by qualifying for the CAF Champions League for the first time but our dream is to win the league too, because we are capable of defeating any opponent," Amer stated on the club's official website. The Alexandrian club defeated Petrojet 4-1 in the kick-off of the four-team round on 28 June, four days before they smashed Zamalek 2-1. The Cairo-based Zamalek are meeting the Petroleum side on Monday at the same time -- 21:30 Cairo time (GMT +2) -- for the third place decider as both were defeated by 36-time league winners Ahly 1-0 and 4-0 respectively. Smouha needs to win Ahly, who are bidding for their eighth successive trophy, because a draw would enable the Reds to win by goal difference. Sedki will be depending on the same key players -- Abdel-Rahman Farouk, El-Sayed Farid, Sherif Hazem, Ayman Ashraf, Tarek Hamed, Ibrahim Abdel-Khaleq, Ahmed Hamoudy, Alaa Ali and Hani El-Ogaizy -- who starred since the beginning of the season, collecting 35 points from 20 matches in the first round, qualifying as the runner-ups of Group A, after Ahly who gained 40. The team is complete with the Saturday return of Hamoudy, El-Ogaizy, Farid and Hazem to regular trainings after minor injuries they sustained in the Zamalek clash on Wednesday.
