Ten protesters were arrested in Alexandria on Friday after demonstrating in support of ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi. Clashes took place between police and hundreds of pro-Morsi protesters in several districts in the coastal city, according to Al-Ahram's Arabic website, and teargas was used to disperse demonstrators. Clashes also took place in Cairo at the Al-Azhar University dorms, but calmed down after a few hours of confrontation between pro-Morsi students and police in the afternoon. A number of students were arrested and the rest were forced back onto dorm grounds. The pro-Morsi National Alliance in Support of Legitimacy, led by the Muslim Brotherhood, called on Wednesday for a new wave of protests against president-elect Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, who led the ouster of Morsi from power in 2013 following mass protests against his rule. Demonstrating publically without prior permission from the authorities was made illegal by a law issued last November. Several prominent activists are serving prison sentences for violating its provisions. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/103065.aspx
