CAIRO, May 26, 2018 (MENA) - A total amount of 9.222 tons of meat, poultry and fish products that were found unfit for human consumption were seized over the past three days in 17 governorates, according to a report released by the Agricultural Ministry's General Authority for Veterinary Services. In a statement on Saturday, the ministry said that the products were found during intensive campaigns that have been carried out by the authority's investigation department in coordination with the other competent bodies nationwide. Products will be handed over to the authorities concerned for further examination and to be kept as evidence to serve the ongoing investigations, the ministry added. Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister Abdel Moneim el Banna directed officials to intensify such campaigns nationwide, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, as demand increases on the offered products as well as to monitor markets alongside meat and poultry outlets. Violations connected with selling food unfit for human consumption will be strictly addressed and all legal procedures will be taken against the offenders, the minister promised. Banna said that campaigns are conducted in cooperation with the competent bodies to inspect markets, restaurants, hotels and hospitals to monitor and make sure of the place of origin of all food products in an effort to preserve public health.
